New Kid On The Block

I think dragonflies are cool. I find the way they move about our place hunting and chasing each other fun to watch. And cool. This year I spotted some new kids on the block so to speak. But about a month ago the dragonflies seemed to disappear from our place. I do not know if the mild summer we had is a contributing factor but they just left. I must admit I was a little bummed out because I had hoped to get some shots of them.

Today as I tried again to capture Hummingbirds in the fields I saw a few of the usual suspects flying about. I suspect the hot weather putting in a late though expected appearance had them back on top of their game. AS I was walking back to the creek I spotted several of Spotted Skimmers and Common White Tailed Skimmers about. As I stopped to get a few shots of a Skipper Butterfly on an Iron weed the following beauty came by. I have not been able to identify it yet but it was small as far as dragonflies go. Getting a good focused shot was difficult but I think you will like the new kid on the block.

Ese’s Weekly Shoot & Quote Challenge – Beginnings

I’ve been photo-blogging for a little over a year and some change. In that time I have not being able to get in the flow of the “Challenges” on WordPress and of those of my fellow bloggers. Over at Ese’s Voice there is one I can get my mind, though maybe not skills, around. Here is my first attempt at blog-dome challenge!

Two Sides of Lincoln

After going to the farmers market The Bride and I went to visit a wonderful little hole-in-the-wall burger joint called Lahas. It has been in business since 1934  and we love just  the place! It is in an adjoining county to ours but the burgers are worth the drive. They have crinkle fries as well. Crinkle fries rule!  If you are ever in LaRue County Kentucky you need to check it out.

While I was there I took several photos of the above mentioned statues. Since I could not come up with a better title, I went with what it is: There are two statues in the town of Hodgenville, Ky representing two side of Abraham Lincoln. They are on the square and face one another on opposite sides of the square. Here are two very different takes of these statues. One is in HDR and the other is a traditional shot.

Good Eats

Yesterday was a good eats day and today is looking good in that department as well. As The Bride and I head out for the day here is a sampling from yesterday.

There is not to many better ways to start the day right than with a good breakfast. And it was good!

These are Nathan's hot dogs or as The Bride and I call them "Snob" dogs. The have actual meat in them. Very tasty and no heart burn after words.

Jingle- Jangle

The Bride’s and my staycation took a three-day detour but we are finally had a day to ourselves. It ended with barb-q and started with a western omelet that was stuffed with local produce and prepared fresh to order. And many cups of Joe in between. Pics of that  I will post later but till then here is my take on Jingle-Jangle (in B&W)!

When You Least Expect It

Life is amazing in many ways but one way is when a gift shows up when you least expect it. I was out in the side field on our place in pursuit of a capture of a very tiny but amazing flower. The two below photos are ones I took later of this little flower and in the bottom one I used my ring to show the flowers size.

I have observed Bumblebees feeding on these flowers that are just a fraction of a Bumblebees mass (See Below photo).

IMG_0070 As I was trying to figure out my lack of success I “felt” the air around me move. I looked up and saw the source of this only four or so feet from my face. Can you see what moved the air? Yes life is a challenge sometimes but amazing shows up when we least expect it.
