Just Passing Through

I spotted this blackbird feeding and was drawn to its magnificent blue/green on black combination of its feathers. I have never seen this bird before so I had to take a couple of pictures for, er,uh…reference. Yes that’s it for reference. After a little online rooting I found out this is a Brewer’s Blackbird. It seems these wonderful birds are not from around here but was just passing through to it’s normal breeding grounds up north and northwest.

More Little Treasures

The bride to The Boy to the creek today after work. When they came back she told me about a little vine with purple flowers on it she had found. I went with her and The Boy back down to the creek. I found the vines by said little purple flowers about the same time the clouds found the sun. Since I am who I am I took the shot(s) of this little treasure. Below, accompanying the purple flower, is a Fleabane I found with a little moth on it.

A Photo Potpourri

I knew today was going to be mostly cloudy but I was hopeful that the Sun would show up for a few cameos. Well no such luck so I went to my default setting and just took the shot(s). Here is a few from the day!

The fine folks at the road dept have created green spaces at varies entrance/exit ramps. I do not know if this is true all through our fine Commonwealth but it so in my part of it. The poppies are popping and I hope to get back when the sun is shinning and the wind is NOT blowing!

I was taking a few pictures of a nearby Fleabane when I noticed these wildflowers. I was drawn to the unopened blooms when I noticed this ant. Quite the poser he is!

A Bee On An Overcast Day

I have been digging the wonderful sunshine since it finally showed up around here but today it took a half day off. I was hoping to get home and take pics of the bees in the apple tree. Seems they took off half the day as well…..the half I wanted to take pictures of them during! Oh well, this fellow decide to buck the trend and showed up for an evening fill up overcast or not. Enjoy!

Fleabane: Weed, Herb or Little Bit Of Wonderful ?

What grows on our place is whatever shows up and can survive. And one such plant that make use of our place is a weed (to some), Herb (to others) and a little bit of wonderful to me. Meet the first Fleabane of the season!

I used my Powershot SX10is in the commission of this capture.

The Doe

The most amazing thing about blogging for me is the way it has expanded my view of the world. I have been blessed with others sharing their corner of the world with us. One of those special places for me the wonderfully written and photographed blog  CIGUDEG pleis bilong tu mi.
I am re-blogging this from my “other” blog because a picture he posted took me back to this story.
Enjoy!

The Jagged Man's avatarPondering Things and Taking Pictures

A vulture. Man they are big I think as I pass one sitting in a tree not twenty feet up and over from the road I am traversing. Road. More like a long paved driveway really than a road. It is no more than a car and quarter wide surrounded by fenced range for cattle farms or lined by deep woods.

As I swing my eyes back to the be mindful of the road I spot something out of sorts to my normal world and pull off the paved path of a road.I turn on my hazard lights and run around the van to confirm I saw what I thought I saw. I did and the next thought is now what. On the fence line not a dozen yards from me is a doe hanging from the fence. She had tried to jump the fence but landed or caught her back legs and hind quarters on the top of the barb wire…
