Just Waiting On Winter

During a period of under-employment several years back I took on odd jobs to get by. The hottest Summer in our area to-date found me cleaning up a piece of historic property after a historic ice-storm.  Laying firewood away for the Winters to come was also on the to-do list. This stack of wood was one of several I had cut and/or gathered up and stacked  that Summer.

Goodbye To My Favorite One Stop Photo-Op

There are few things I love to shot: Nature, old vehicles and rusty things. There is only one place I could get all three and now it is gone. Hopefully the old truck is getting a make over and will be back in new clothes.

I was really looking forward to this Spring to see what blooming things popped up around this old truck. But life is ever-changing I will keep my eye out for my next favorite one stop photo-op. Here are several I have taken and posted here from my favorite one stop photo-op. Enjoy My Friends!

One From An Old Friend

As some of you may know my beloved Canon Powershot S3is is now deceased. I have purchased a used Canon Powershot SX10is and look forward to the season to come for more photo ops. In the mean time I have been cruising through my old shots to fill the gap till the-things-that-bloom arrive this Spring. Here is one I took with the S3 in the Summer of 2011.Enjoy!

Seagulls In January

The sun decided to show up today and I personally rejoiced. The gloom and cold has been a little heavy upon me so far this Winter. The problem is there is no blooming and colorful things to take photos of plus no sun and this all adds up to a whining me! Just saying. So what is one to do when the sun shows up? Take a late lunch is what I did so I could get a few shots in with my new-to-me PowerShot SX10is. Off I went to the lake and found this normally duck and geese populated landscape over ran by sea gulls. Sea gulls in the heartland? In January? Well none the less I do what I normally do: I took the shot. Enjoy!

First New Shot of the Year

With daylight savings time and Winters arrival now living in our house, and the grey and short days that they bring, I have had little opportunity to take pictures of the things I love most. For those new to my place those things are usually the green things. The bright and colorfully things. The new life things. Or under the microscope of the here and now maybe it is better put as thus: The-things-I-do-not-freeze-my-bum-off-while-I take the shot  things!

With that said I have tried for the last several years to search for nuggets of not so green things and dare to see what treasures I can find. In that spirit here is my first new shot of the year. Enjoy!

My Favorite From 2012

I love the contrast between the hardness of the rusty post and the soft touch of the flowers.
I love the contrast between the hardness of the rusty post and the soft touch of the flowers.

The journey for me and my Family in 2012 was a difficult one. Not that it was impossible, or worse than all others, yet it was a crazy ride. The one thing that keep me going was my Faith. For me if there is not  bigger picture then this life seems rather silly and unfair. Unfair not to me but to those men, women and children in this world who live with unbelievable hunger, are used for profit and  many other situations of repression.

This photo sings to me of the difference between people, places and the human journey. For me, as this picture simply works because of the differences, I hope we as the Human race can work it out as well.

Ten Random Pictures From 2012

As a new season of life begins I look into the mirror of the past. I reflect on  “that which has been” and all the questions it brings with it. One of the questions is simply why do I enjoy photography so much. On the surface I must admit I simply want to be in the moment. Upon further reflection I believe this is counterbalanced by another dynamic: The need to share with others.

In that spirit here are Ten Random Pictures From 2012. Enjoy!11-16-12 S700 DSC_0026 DSC_0045 IMG_5316 IMG_0134 IMG_0045 DSC_0184 2012 03 11_1946 IMG_0017 2012 03 11_1917

My Mom’s Memorial Service is tomorrow and as one can imagine there has been little else on my mind. She was much more than a mother. She was my Mom. She was an adviser, counselor and a disciplinary but she was fair and honest, without being mean, as they come.

She raised me to be my own person but also to be a caring person by her example. Actions truly speak louder than words. I could have done a lot worse as far as parents go but not any better. I have stated this to several people before and I will say it a gain here: I would wish my parents on anyone.

May your New Year be filled with courage to face the hardships, peace to see you safely through and Hope that all will be well in the end as you start the next chapter anew.

Peace, The Jagged Man
