Super Moon To Be

With the moon reaching it’s most super-sized girth of 2013 on June 23rd I had an opportunity tonight/tomorrow morning to try a few captures before hand. I used my Powershot SX10is in this photo.

If this old wooden bridge could talk I am betting it would bemoan the feeling that it is past its usefully prime. I can sense it would lament that fact and say “Time passed me by”. Yet I would argue with this fine old bridge and say it is still very useful.

For one I would point out that it is a reminder of a simpler time, when things were not hurried and rushed. Next I would attest to the fact it was fortunate that the builders built it well, as it has stood the test of time. It is, I must reminded it, a place where other have left their mark, not as vandals, but as people needing to make their mark in time for future reference. And finally I would confirm that it brings joy to many of us who have had the pleasure of its very presence.

Test Driving New Themes

Over the next few weeks or so I am going to test drive different themes. I really did not put much thought into my theme when I first started: I just wanted to get my stuff out there and share it others! So let me know what you think and till the next time meet one of my favorite sweat bees: Genus Agapostemon – Metallic Green Bees. Not the best capture but one does the best one can on windy days!

A Lovely Start

I love photographing thistles in full bloom and the potpourri of pollinators that populate them. I have tried several times to get an acceptable capture of the thistle as it starts to bloom but I have not been happy with the results. That changed tonight, when I downloaded the below picture, and finally got a decent shot of a thistle in the early stage of blooming. Yes I think it is a lovely start.

I used the long end of the zoom on my Powershot SX10is in this shot.

I was driving down a private lane and stumbled upon a wonderful sight. See if you can see what I did in the photo below.

A Caboose In HDR

I took the series of photos for this HDR merge without the aid of a tripod. I seem to see things that sing to me when I am not able to carry all my gear with me. I used my Powershot SX10is and just free-handed it. I used the grid in the view finder as a guide on each shot. I then did the merge with Corel PaintShop Pro X4. I am happy with it and hope you like it as well.

A Door With A Story

I came across this door and felt it had a story. Turns out the wooden frame and the door under the metal was part of a very old, and now departed, tobacco barn. It now resides as the gate-keeper to an old storage building.Though I like nature photography I still find old and rusty things very cool, especially when I learn a little about its story.

Duck, Duck, Goose

With The Bride at a meeting this evening I spent a little time at the lake. I am trying to get in tune with my Powershot SX10is so it was nice to have the space to do so. Here are a few from that adventure.
