A Barn From the Past In B&W

A friend of mine has mentioned she likes to see my old barns and buildings in B&W. I rarely shot barns and such in B&W and do not like the effect I get when I convert then to B&W. But friends sometimes do things they don’t like to help a friend out. Here are two different versions on B&W converting. Chime in on which one you like best and I included the original color shot for comparison.

This old barn sets by the road I have traveled on daily for a decade and a half. It was used for a while to store farm equipment but hasn’t been used for much in many years. The old house sets by the barn but slightly closer to the road. I can imagine back when these two buildings were built the road was more than likely dirt. The old road once was the main thoroughfare through the state. In the early 1900’s it was paved, and joined with other roads, to connect the Southern States with the Urban north.

Black & White Sunday: Natural

For this weeks Back & White Sunday challenge I wanted to stretch myself a bit. So here it goes. A little health scare the week past made me realize I have only a finite amount of time on this little Blue Marble. As I pondered that, I revisited the age-old question: Is time real, or natural for the sake of this post, or man-made? As a philosophical argument I go with man-made but when I look at the universe and all that is, has been and is theorized to be, I could argue it is natural. But truly no matter what it is, we are only here for a little while. Enjoy the time you have, be grateful always, love unconditionally and be quick to forgive (That includes ourselves) because living any other way robs us of precious, fleeting time.

The above picture I know to be within the realm of nature. I added it not as a argument for/against the above mentioned timey, whimy…. thing but I just think it looks cool. Naturally.

My Dad: The Keeper Of The Bees

Happy Fathers Day to you all! Since my Pop’s passed a little over two years ago I wanted to share him with you as a way to honor him, and my Mom, since they where one hell of a team. I miss them both but their memory lives on. Here is a story I wrote about him sometime back. Enjoy~ JM

The Jagged Man's avatarPondering Things and Taking Pictures

My dad was a keeper of the bees at one time. I remember those fresh honey comb slabs of sweet and chewy wonder like it was yesterday. He would also get some fresh honey out of hive honey for us to put on mom’s fresh out of the oven bread. Those were wondrous times for me and I miss them but as time passes I remember more and more of yesterdays past. I suppose it is because my folks are getting older and soon there will be no more new memories to be made. This truly makes me sad and somehow thankful at the same time.

Well now let’s get back to The Keeper Of The Bees.

My dad always did things by himself and never asked for help. He was an only child and he just had to do things himself. There was a incident with the bees where…

An Old Railroad Bridge

I have challenged myself to look at things differently, in life and in my photo journey. Here is one of an old railroad bridge crossing the Mighty Ohio River that was built in the 1860’s. I waned to capture the essences of the bridge but include the new element, the street lap that is designed to resemble the gas lights of that  bygone era, then I converted it to B&W in Perfect Effects 9.
