Past Glory II

As we continue this series of B&W’s and its narrative I am reminded that this has, and will be, a dark subject. I am also aware that this is not my usually bright and beauty seeking mind set but this is real-life: It is dark and gritty sometimes and as we navigate this life currents we cannot deny that. And as I will get to in a post or two, sometimes people need a fresh start from the floor up so to speak. Today I will show you how back in the 70’s when this motel was built it was a very nice place.

For starters the doors to the rooms where metal but painted in bright , inviting colors of the era. The last owner of the place kept that theme going by painting the doors a nice bright purple. The doors still have the 70’s locks sets that sit in a metal plate that went formed a u-shape around the doors deadbolt striker and latch mechanism. The door frame and striker plate was metal as well. This conveyed a sense of security to the road weary traveler.

Some of the rooms had whirlpool tubs. Nice way to unwind from a long day on the road.

There was a very nice outside pool and patio area in the back of the hotel.

There was even a small full-service hair salon at one time. This hair-dryer is sitting on what I believe used to be the dining room but could be converted to a meeting or dancing hall. The salon was more towards the front of this area if I recall right.

Past Glory I

This is Part I of the my trip down memory lane of a hotel I used to love and then came to despise. This picture is of what used to be a full functioning kitchen. Our friends Cindy and Pete would meet My Bride and I for dinner at the hotel’s restaurant back in the early to mid 90’s. The hotel was a Holiday Inn I believe at this time and was state of the art for the period. The ambiance was delightful and the food top-notch then but then there is this photo of where it is now. I did not step into the kitchen but took this from the door way as to respect the posted no trespassing signs. As you can see there is no hint to its Past Glory.

The Beginning

Have you ever had a building, place or an object that just looking at it pains you to the core? I have several. The one I am talking about hear was condemned by the city health and building inspectors and I was happy it was. I was also hopeful that it would be torn down. This place will be the subject of a series of varies photos/renderings over the next several days/weeks/months.  The tear down has started and I will add narrative to this story as I go. Till then here is to the Beginning.

The Old Man

My neighbor used to run a few head of cattle and a few donkeys on out place. This photo is of the leader of the donkeys whom we called The Old Man. He watched over the others and was the sire of two while he was here. One day I came home and the donkeys were going. My neighbor had sold them and moved on to other things but apparently  I haven’t because I miss them donkeys. Read about them here if you want.
