Remembering Our Garden
Two weeks ago tomorrow I woke up and knew something was wrong. Though I never give up my right to be wrong, this time I did not have do so. A visit to the ER, a few x-rays, and several hours later I was sporting the latest in chest tubes and I was admitted to the hospital for a “few days”. One failed, painful and unnecessary procedure later I am transported to a larger and more skilled hospital for my condition. After meeting the surgeon and his staff I was scheduled for surgery. The surgery was a blur, thank goodness, but apparently when I come out of anesthesia (I so had to look that word up, really I do not recall ever spelling it…anyone else?) I channel Michael Jackson. Who knew, right? I thought everyone did! I was up and walking two hours later and ate diner with no problems. Things were looking good though now I was sporting twin chest tubes and a, well never mind. The next several days ran into each other and became a fusion of pain, hope, hard work and reflection.
The Bride was only with me the night before, the day of surgery and the following day.We discussed this before hand, and as she had clinicals three times this week, that is something we decide was more important than her sitting with me. It turned out to be the right decision, though I missed her ever day. A bunch. I had great care and my brother came over ever day but yesterday so he could be rested up to pick me and take me home. I had no/to unbearably bad WiFi and after one day of trying I decided to relax and take a clue from my blood type: B +. Now that I am back home I want to keep putting the work in and find a balance on the road to me getting healthy. Sometime we try to change too much, too quick and end up falling back into bad habits and health choices.
I reflected on this as I walked about our place and drink in of the bounty we have been blessed with. The Butterfly bushes are out and thriving unlike last year. Since I haven’t been able to trim up the fence roll the Spotted Jewel weeds have done a fine job of adorning the place with their little Orange gems that all pollinators love. And I give Thanks for the mess that makes up our place. I also rejoice that we have been allowed to share it through this blog, through friendships that are as precious and soul feeding as any flower to pollinators, and smile at how in the past two weeks Remembering Our Garden help me stayed connected to those things that are truly important.
Peace~ John
The Old Guards Stands
I am still riding out a medical issue that seems as stubborn as I am. Because of this issue I am not working as in I am the hospital, though there is good news :The Bride is back in school. Also my fellow employees are donating their paid-time-off to me, so that is a big help. Also a big help, a new friend and a couple of old friends will take care of a water issue we are having at our house. This is huge because The Bride arrived home last night to no water pressure. So as I set here and put my breathing exercises and faith to work, the old guards stands.
P.S. If you feel compelled we still have the link for The Brides fund raiser . Any thing would help, and a lot of little gifts add up too!
Watching Paint Peel
I will be out of action for the unknown future. Working through a health issue and having to rest some is like watching paint peel to me. Hoping for a positive outcome and doing my part to help, which is resting, and I have a bit of a struggle with that. The Bride’s first day of her second semester in nursing school started today as well. Hope this finds you all well and keep me and The Bride in your thoughts and prayers as we will need them, Peace~ John

Thursday’s Special: Time
I love wrist watches. Just love them.Period. And I am also amazed at how many flavors there are of them. As it is with many things in life, there is an irony to that. Why? Because when I wear a watch it will slow down. Now I haven’t tried wearing a wind-up watch like the those I inherited from my dad, as they are not functional at this time. So in that quirky light here are two shots of watches for Paula’sThursday Special: Time.
Our Friend The Hover Fly
A fellow employee tried to kill a Hover Fly this week as it flew around our work space. I told him Hover Flies are our friend and he did not realize how awesome these little pollinators are. So here is on of Our Friend the Hover Fly.
