Late Night In Smallsville

Tiny Dancer

Breath In The Moment
Life moves for the most of us at the pace of thought and slowing down is hard to do. Tonight as I left work the Sun was turning the last of a retreating storm line a golden blanketed wonderment. I knew the coming sunset was going to be spectacular but I needed to stop and grab a few things at the grocery. I came out of the grocery to a sky, and the fading edge of the storm line, in blaze of color. The sky above the storm line was blue melting into night and below the horizon as far as you could see was on fire. I started to “case” the sunset or a great capture but as I approached my planned route a train was blocking my path. Quickly I mentally looked for an alternate route when my eyes caught the sunset through this archway from the square to an alley parking lot. I stopped mentally, and physically, chasing the sunset and parked the car. The photo is crap but the sunset was there, no matter the obstacles, my job was to stop and breath in the moment.
National Geographics Loss Is Your Gain
I was going to submit a few photos for the 2015 National Geographic Photo Contest but there was a $15.00 entry fee. I thought a photo contest would be free but I was wrong. My gut feeling is that National Geographic is trying to control the number of entries, quality verses quantity as an example, by charging a fee and it seems to worked if that was the case. Well sort of. In my opinion a lot of great photographs will now never see the light of day and I think that’s a shame. I love looking into the world of others through their lens. I could live a hundred life times and never see all the beauty and wonders this world has to offer. It is through others sharing their world that I get just a glimpse of things not meant to be for me. I have a saying, which is about making money at my work that fits here as well: “A little bit of something is something but all of nothing is nothing.” I would rather have a glimpse and be filled with wonder than see not to be able to see at all. So for zero dollars are the three I was going to enter.
Ducks At Dusk….And Underexposed.
After several attempts at ducks in flight, I find I am having a hard time getting the most out of my Sony A37. Since having several success with my old and sold A300 I thought it would be easy-peasy with the newer A37 but that is not my reality. I do love this camera and have had no problems using it in my style of shooting but ducks and other birds in flight have my number for now. Here is the least of the terrible from this evening.
Have You Ever Wondered………
….what a cat is thinking? This is our cat Butterfly. This is a typical capture of her: Never looking at the camera but always seemingly aloof. Lets play a game to see what we think cats are thinking by leaving your interpretation of this photo in the comment section.
Here is mine: “What is that smell? I know you are coming Winter, even if it is 60 degrees out and Sunny in mid-November, I know you are coming none the less.”
