I was going to submit a few photos for the 2015 National Geographic Photo Contest but there was a $15.00 entry fee. I thought a photo contest would be free but I was wrong. My gut feeling is that National Geographic is trying to control the number of entries, quality verses quantity as an example, by charging a fee and it seems to worked if that was the case. Well sort of. In my opinion a lot of great photographs will now never see the light of day and I think that’s a shame. I love looking into the world of others through their lens. I could live a hundred life times and never see all the beauty and wonders this world has to offer. It is through others sharing their world that I get just a glimpse of things not meant to be for me. I have a saying, which is about making money at my work that fits here as well: “A little bit of something is something but all of nothing is nothing.” I would rather have a glimpse and be filled with wonder than see not to be able to see at all. So for zero dollars are the three I was going to enter.
You pay AND they get use your photo forever.
That is another good point as well. I don’t believe they would use mine but I could see them using yours. 🙂
Thanks.
