NASCAR’s Number One Son

Love him or hate him, Dale Earnhardt has to be the number one loved son of NASCAR. I will be honest I was not a fan of his but the “feel” of racing in NASCAR has not been the same since his death February 18th, 2001. I have however have been a fan of the paint schemes of the “Intimidator’s” cars. His normal intimidating black scheme was simple, and hard to miss, as he mixed it up among other more lively painted vehicles. I loved his 1996 Red, White and Blue 100th Anniversary of the Olympics that was being hosted in Atlanta that year. My favorite though is the Red Coca-Cola paint scheme he ran in an exhibition race in 1998 at the Twin Ring Motegi in Motegi, Japan. It was the first time Senior raced against his son Dale Jr in Winston Cup. Fittingly enough Jr’s Coca-Cola’s paint scheme was almost all black.

With the 2016 NASCAR season about to kick off in a few weeks I decided to post two pictures of my favorite “car-on-a-shelf”, Sr’s Coca-Cola car in a commemorative car by Action Racing Collectibles.  The first I love because Jr’s number 8 is being “held” by Sr’s number 3. I took it with my Canon S3is as part of a shot-a-day project I attempted. The second is my take on the what true Dale Sr fans are: True. I hope you enjoy both.

A Red-Bellied Woodpecker

A Redheaded Woodpecker has been flittering about our place for several years now. I have never had a camera when he was close enough to get a snap in but always too far away when I had a camera. Till yesterday that is when this he showed up right outside my window. I shot this through the window while he was in the shade but it isn’t half bad considering the conditions.

My Bird Spotter

Yesterday, as I sat with the window open trying to captures a few bird pics, Butterfly was my companion. She has been inside now since Thursday without going to stir-crazy. I feel that will end soon if I cannot get her outside for at least and hour or two. Soon. Real soon. Yet I also think having the window open and having the snow blow in, but not on her ,she feels like she has been “outside”. I took this shot as I waited for her body language to show me a bird was a short distance outside the window.

Downtown Uncovered

One of the few original buildings from the town’s yesteryear had to be razed. Well ll but the facade, that is protected by a historic preservation law in our town. I hate that things get in such a bad way they cannot be restored but it does happen. If it didn’t I would have never seen these treasures:This mural of would I have seen these two lovely old fireplaces. Since the light was terrible and the area roped off this was the best I could do of downtown uncovered.
