I have tried other challenges and they really were of something I was comfortable with but nighttime shots? Well that is another thing all together. As a novice I am glad of one thing: Nighttime shots challenge ever skill level and this challenge I can see others entries and learn my place in the light. So here are my entries in the WP Weekly Photo Challenge: Nighttime
Hello JM-
The star-effect on the traffic signals and street lamps is very interesting. How did you achieve that?
Jane
(Thank you for including me in your “posts I like”. Very kind of you 🙂 )
Hi Jane!
Beavers I think they are amazing and very beneficial to the environment. They have been doing what they do forever it is humans who are the problem. They need better press that’s all.
As far as the star effect that was a natural effect of the long- exposure setting. I took the picture with the light green and slowed the shutter speed so it would get the yellow and the red light as well.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting! ~ John
Thanks, John- for the instructions 🙂 I haven’t played around with long-exposures. This sounds like a fun first assignment. Good to know the goal is to capture a full green to red light change cycle. Just ordered a tripod. Will give this a try after it arrives.

I like that last long exposure shot.
Thanks!
I used my Powershot SX10is on it and it took many tries to get all the traffic lights on at once.
