Hope Initiates Spring Things As Winter Slumbers

For The Bride and I it has been an intense twenty-eight hour day. I arrived home last night around the six-o’clock hour and went outside to play LLAB ( That is BALL spelled rearwards because he goes nut if we say the word ball) with The Boy. As I was tossing the ball something  in my peripheral seemed seriously out of place. As I looked up I thought there was a white plastic bag fluttering in the wind, except it acted weird for a bag blowing in the wind.  I looked again and realized what is was.  I ordered The Boy inside and once he was secure I raced up the road. I was less than five or so yards away from where the anomaly was when my eyes confirmed what I thought it was: A young Doe had try to jump the fence and now her back leg was trapped in it. Her leg hung at an unnatural angle compared to how her body was laying. I tried to free her with my hands but knew I needed tools. I ran back to the house and got what I needed and headed back out to her aid. On my way out of the house I called to The Bride and asked her to follow me. I was going to need help but I had no time to explain and as I exited our home I ran into my friend/neighbor Rusty. I was so focused I ran past his car as he pulled into our yard as I was heading into our home to get the tools I needed! He and The Bride followed me and assisted as I cut the fence and twisted it away from her injured leg. She was free but the saga had just began.

To much stuff happened in the next few hours much less adding the next twenty or so hours to this story to do it justice but simply put The Bride went to work. She was able to get a number to a lady who volunteered for a veterinary/rescue origination. The Bride arranged for her to meet us and she got here right at sundown. After assessing the Doe and her condition she and her husband loaded the doe up and headed to the vets to see if there was anything that could be done. We will know within the next couple days if they were able to save her. A real and very unexpected sense of relief washed over me.

I am hopeful but more so I am thankful to people who care for the things other people care about. So as I decompressed I came across this photo I took a few days ago when the temperature was better suited to my temperament,  and less potentially fatal to an injured Doe, I knew it was post worthy. It is of a  Milkweed with a seed-head ready to make its way to a fertile patch of Spring. Something I hope the doe sees but if not I am content knowing we tried. We, more than one, tried and that is what community is and hope Springs forth from there no matter what may be or what may come Hope Initiates Spring Things As Winter Slumbers.

I am a 61 year old guy who is asking questions about life like "what does it all mean?" and " how come hair will not grow on my head but grows real fast on my ears and back?" you know the deep stuff. I believe in Jesus Christ and that He died for all. The rest I am still working on.

  1. I hope the doe heals quickly and doesn’t have any long term effects from her accident. She was lucky that you were close by and saw her predicament.

  2. Oh my, what a story! So glad you, your Bride, and Rusty were able to rescue the doe. Certainly hope she will be able to heal properly and go about her life. Grateful for folks like you who care.

  3. This account sounds so like you. I would have expected nothing less from you and The Bride. Prayers for the Doe.
