Thursday’s Special: Think Pink

There a hand-full of sites I come back to visit time after time and Paula’s Lost In Translation is one of them. As is the case more than not her photo challenges seem to sing to me and this one is no acceptation and timely as well. I work for a non-profit hospice organization and this week is Breast Cancer Awareness week. It is a week we dedicate to bring a razor-sharp focus to this disease and I do not shy away from letting women know why we do so. Breast cancer if detect early is very treatable and survivable. Regular mammograms are the best way to detect breast cancer though how often is still being debated. I  have to speak into this as a male who has been blessed to see and come to think a little different: There would be no debate if men had the same level of risk as women for breast cancer. It would be paid for and required every year, no matter the risk factor, if was a mans life at stake. I believe the same should apply to women because they are our equals. Period. Now lets starting treating them as such and at the same time acknowledge and celebrate the differences. In that light here a photo of my favorite walk around camera as my contribution to Paula’s wonderful Thursday’s Special: Think Pink!

Celebrating A Life Part II

Last Saturday as My Bride and I walked around the lake we met many folks who were there with their dogs. Dogs and people greeted us as we pasted on the trail. Now there are usually a lot of people out walking but on this day we saw more dogs than ever before. Our hearts and faces smiled because we knew how fun it is to enjoy nature with our pets. Our hearts also hurt a little bit because we were celebrating Our Boys life instead of mourning his passing. We did not mention it to anyone we met but felt a kinship with them in as we too loved to hang out with Ficus.

Yes our Corgi’s name was Ficus, as in the tree, and we got him when he was three years old. He loved to “work” by playing llab, or ball for the rest of us. We started to spell out ball backwards after he figured out that when we said or spelled ball he was getting to do his job. He then proceed to loose his ever-loving-mind. As to keep him quiet and not run over our cats as he headed to the door we spelled it llab.

When My Bride, or better yet “His Girl”, ask him to play ball Friday afternoon and he did not want to she knew something was wrong. After the vets visit we decided to take him home for one more night with us, then do what was best for Ficus early Saturday morning. I am going to end here and share some of the photos I have of Ficus that I have posted here before and I will write later about this awesome dog. I think I will title that post Celebrating A Life I.
