Saturday Unhurried

There is nothing I like more than going on a walkabout with the Bride. We always try to make Saturday’s unhurried but this time instead of a nature walkabout we checked our towns Second Saturday downtown event.

Our town is small but it has been around awhile as far as American standards go that is. What follows are a few photos from last evening. They were taken with my used PowerShot G3. I do not like using flash so the inside shots lack and will until I get a better handle on the cameras abilities ( and mine as well)!

The working art/jewelry studio of a very cool shop that supports local, state and regional artist.
The different layers of color are a delight. To bad the authors photo skills are not 😉
Hospitality in these here parts : Job One!

As I understand it the art work on the walls were done by the shops owner. The picture does not do them justice nor does the depth of styles and mediums come through either.
We had live music….
Good food…..
And met new friends!

Author: The Jagged Man

I am a 61 year old guy who is asking questions about life like "what does it all mean?" and " how come hair will not grow on my head but grows real fast on my ears and back?" you know the deep stuff. I believe in Jesus Christ and that He died for all. The rest I am still working on.

  1. Hope the gallery sold a few things… nothing sadder than putting on a show only to have nothing to show for it…except light bills etc.

    1. We got to her shop just before closing and ended up talking about the building more than her art but it is subject she loves as well. The building was hit by an artillery round during the Civil War by Morgans Raiders! She and her husband have owned the building for years and you can tell there is love and passion poured into both art and history preservation.

      1. Most artists live on love and passion… problem is that bills do come due. My father was a pretty good artist but ended up having to give it up to make a living.. I married a fine artist… and if you had any idea what he poured into his art and the prizes he won…but after he died I ended up having to sell his paintings to pay the bills. The funeral home wouldn’t even come to pick up his body in the hospital without a large deposit! All of his genius now is out in large homes and corporations… and little of it ever came back for all the love and passion he put into its creation.

      2. I sorry Merrill.i really do not have more than that.
As far as I can tell this lady is fortunate as of now. She is a retired teacher, she has a supporting husband and they seem to be doing well.
As far as art goes appreciation does come around but sadly usually after the artists are gone.

  2. When I was very young I used to do pet portaits for a little extra money. I always did a couple of pintings and let the owners of the pets pick the ones they liked. (Never had any complaints!) I used to take the extra paintings to the art shows and sell them to cover their cost. One day I had done a Siamese cat…and had one extra painting that I took to Washington Square, NYC art show. A fellow stopped by and said he liked the painting very much and asked how much it was. I told him $25 (as I was just covering my costs at that point.) He handed me a $100 bill and made me hunt all over the place for change so I could give him the $75 left. Once it was all wrapped up for him he told me, he would have given me $200 for it but since I had told him $25… that was what he paid. A couple of months later I found that in every needle point and needle craft store in the country… He was a designer and sold it to them and he and the company made a small bit of money on my Siamese cat with the blue eyes and the blue background. It was in the stores for years!
And to this day, every time I hear someone brag about how cheaply they bought a certain work of art… I understand completely why this country is so poor.
Sorry to get off on your blog… I guess you hit a nerve!

  3. You can delete my posts if you feel it will keep others from enjoying your Unhurried Saturday….

    1. I will not. If people are bothered by this well that is on them. I for one am honored you shared that here. Maybe others will see the true price of art. And thanks for the reminder. …
